SOUTH INDIAN FILTER METHOD

Filter Coffee

South Indian filter coffee is an age-old Indian tradition that is notable in most of the parts of south India. You should not miss this coffee type no matter what. This method is similar to the french press technique however the device used is distinct and unique. Plus the apparatus is very simple to use.

The parts include two cylindrical vessels. The top vessel has perforations in it and it fits into the lower vessel which collects the coffee brew. There is also a pressing disc with a handle and a lid. Brew time- overnight (12 minutes is minimum time)

How to brew your coffee in the filter coffee method?

Step 1: Place the top vessel on the lower one. Then take 3 teaspoons of coffee and place it in the top vessel with the perforations. For this filter use the following proportions:

Strong Coffee: 🥄 4 teaspoons coffee powder

Medium Strong Coffee: 🥄 3 teaspoons coffee powder

Light Coffee: 🥄 1.5 to 2 teaspoons coffee powder

Step 2: Use your finger or a small spoon to spread the ground coffee.

Step 3: Now place the pressing disc with the handle on the coffee powder.

Step 4: Continue the process mentioned below

♨️ Boil 1 cup of water.

🫗 Fill the coffee filter with boiling water to ¾ or until it is almost full.

Step 5: Cover with the lid and leave to sit for 10 to 12 minutes (or overnight for traditional experience) until the coffee decoction percolates in the lower vessel.

☕️ Your coffee is ready to be served. Serve it with milk and sugar for the nicest appreciation.

CHANNI METHOD

If you are someone new to coffee brewing and doesn't have much coffee brewing gear with you, the Channi method is one that suits you presently. A tea strainer, coffee mug, boiling water and freshly roasted ground coffee is all it needs.

Brew time: 3-4 minutes

How to get your easy cup of aromatic coffee using the Channi method?

Step 1: 🥄 Take 2 teaspoons of ground coffee in the coffee mug (Some more if you desire strong coffee).

Step 2:♨️ Bring the water to boiling, let it sit for 30 seconds (the coffee shouldn't get burnt).

Step 3:🫗 Now pour the hot water into the mug slowly. Stir it 10 times. Set it aside for 3-4 minutes.

Step 4:☕︎ Strain the coffee using a tea strainer or Channi. Add some more water or milk according to your liking. Your easy peasy Channi method coffee is ready to be served.
